As digital communications become more pervasive, people will be able to use social media and apps to communicate more securely, even when the phones are turned off.
But this does not mean that they will be better able to communicate securely.
In fact, many people will not be able or willing to engage with those they disagree with on social media.
This is especially the case for those who may not be comfortable discussing sensitive issues such as abortion, transgender identity and religion.
